New GOP slogan is also antidepressant trademark
MSNBC’s Mike Viqueira points out that the new GOP slogan is also the trademark for an antidepressant drug.
MITCHELL: For more on the big loss for the Republicans in Mississippi last night and what’s happening on Capitol Hill, I’m joined now by MSNBC’s Congressional Correspondent Mike Viqueira. Tom Davis and the Republicans were meeting on the House side. What is the fallout?
VIQUEIRA: There are a lot of glum Republicans walking around right now. One person on the hot seat, Representative Tom Cole, Republican of Oklahoma. He runs the campaign arm for House Republicans. He’s on a conference call right now with reporters. I’ve just hung up. He says that, look, we’ve got to take a hard look at our product. That is, the GOP brand. And as you know, Andrea, the parlance of marketing is really an infiltrated the language of politics lately. They keep talking about the brand, the brand, the brand, and everything that they are saying today is admitting that the GOP brand is hurting. A lot of them, including Tom Davis, you mentioned him, Tom Davis stopped outside that closed GOP meeting today, stomped on the floor in front of reporters and said, this is our popularity level. This is the floor. We are below the floor. He said leadership after 2006, we should have changed. There should have been a change. We are flying the airplane into a mountain. You’d think that we would have a new direction was the implication of what he was saying. So, a lot of discontent here. Talking about the brand, Republicans have come up with a new slogan to bring them to November. It’s called “the change you deserve.” And perhaps indicative of the way things are going for Republicans, it was discovered after they unveiled their slogan that is also the brand trademark for an antidepressant drug Effexor put out by Wyeth.
MITCHELL: Ouch. When things are going bad, they really go bad.
