Maddow slams Buchanan over Milbank misquote of Obama
A diary at DailyKos is calling MSNBC to release 5 minutes of video from the July 31 airing of Race to the White House. During the 5 minute segment, Rachel Maddow and Pat Buchanan debate the validity of a Dana Milbank article where he claims that Obama said, “I have become a symbol of the possibility of America.”
They report the actual quote as, “It has become increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign, that the crowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me at all. It’s about America. I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions.”
Another diary at DailyKos quotes an NBC executive explaining why MSNBC refuses to release the exchange between Maddow and Buchanan.
“‘Viewers are incredibly engaged this election season, with a real appetite for political news,’ said Phil Griffin, Senior Vice President, NBC News and Executive in Charge of MSNBC. ‘But sometimes, for viewers’ own good — and to maintain our good standing in the Village — we have to self-censor. Some truths are just too painful, and we have a responsibility to protect the public as well as inform them.'”
