Wes Clark: President ‘not subordinate’ to generals
MSNBC’s Dan Abrams talked with Gen. Wesley Clark, Obama supporter Catherine Crier and The Washington Times’ Tara Wall about Barack Obama saying that he would not obey every wish of commanders in Iraq. Obama had been attacked by McCain campaign adviser Randy Scheunemann for “refusing to defer” to General Petraeus.
Wes Clark noted that in the military chain of command, generals are subordinate to the Commander-in-Chief. Clark said, “As the Commander-in-Chief he does not have to take the advice of commanders on the ground.” Clark continued saying that generals “do not rule Washington. What Barack Obama is saying is that he appreciated General Petraeus’ judgement but he’s got considerations that go beyond Iraq.”
