Reminder to Texas readers
Today is the deadline for voter registration. Stop by any of the voter registration tables around town to register, if you haven’t already (or just need an address change). By the way, I found this part of the article that I linked amusing:
The drive, hosted by SG, UT Votes, College Republicans, University Democrats and the Students Events Center, will launch a registration competition among 30 student organizations, said Cathy Setzer, project coordinator for UT Votes.
“You won’t be able to walk 100 feet without running into registers,” Setzer said.
The event is bipartisan and will feature guest speakers on the importance of voting, said Ryan Ellis, president of College Republicans.
At what point do you make the switch, as a young Republican, from helping with voter registration drives to standing around taking pictures of voters’ license plates at polls? Or demonizing people who give rides to the polls to people living in poverty? Or suggest sterilizing women on welfare (and paying rich people for every child) in order to tilt the polls towards your party? When, in other words, do you give up the pretense of even caring about the one citizen/one vote democracy when it clashes so badly with your party’s need to suppress turnout?
