Fox guest: Require DNA samples for all arrests
John Roman of the Urban Policy Center wants DNA samples taken from everyone arrested. “There are millions of these crimes and D.N.A. proves to be very cost-effective way to solve them,” Roman told Fox’s Gretchen Carlson.
Civil rights attorney Conrad Claus disagrees. Claus believes that privacy rights outweigh the benefit to the public. “We’re taking a very personal piece of information, D.N.A. tells you a lot more than fingerprints do. It’s misnomer to call it a genetic fingerprint. It gives us information about behavioral tendencies, genetic traits, intimate details we don’t want released or at least many of us don’t want released. And that information doesn’t disappear once it’s been collected it stays in a database forever. That’s a problem,” explained Claus.
