Obama campaigned against McCain’s spending freeze plan

During the debates, then-candidate Barack Obama campaign against an across-the-board spending freeze. Obama said, “The problem with a spending freeze is you’re using a hatchet where you need a scalpel. There are some programs that are very important that are underfunded.”

A video of Obama’s comments during the three debates was uploaded to YouTube after the administration’s plan to freeze spending was leaked.
