Epic Daily Show moment: Real Michael Steele meets puppet counterpart
Last night Michael Steele went on The Daily Show, but before the interview began the former Republican National Committee chairman had to face off with a puppet bearing his likeness.
The Daily Show created puppet Michael Steele after the real Steele refused to appear on the show last summer.
“Wait a minute, you’re not Michael Steele,” Stewart said after introducing the real Steele. “We’ve had Michael Steele on this show like five times.”
“John, I can assure you, I’m Michael Steele,” Steele said.
“Hold the phone, winter bone,” puppet Steele announced, appearing from behind the desk. “Sorry, I’m late, Watergate.”
“He’s says he’s Michael Steele but… oh my God, I don’t even know who I’m supposed to interview. I can’t even tell you guys apart now,” Stewart said.
“Only one thing to do, Johnny Beef Stew: Ask us questions that only the real Michael Steele could answer,” suggested the puppet.
“Okay, who coined the phrase ‘Drill, Baby, Drill’?” Stewart asked.
“That was me,” volunteered the puppet. “Originally it was ‘Drill, Ba-bibilty, Drill.'”
After several more questions, Stewart jokingly resigned that it was clear who was the true Michael Steele.
“Take a hike, Dick Van Dyke,” the real Steele triumphantly said to the puppet.
