Libyan rape victim released, officials say
Libyan officials claim that Eman al-Obeidy has been released. Al-Obeidy burst into a Tripoli hotel full of foreign journalists Saturday and told the story of her two-day torture and gang rape at the hands of 15 pro-Gaddafi militia men, then she was dragged away by security and thrown into an unmarked car.
Officials now say that she has been released, though there is no proof. Al-Obeidy has not been seen or interviewed since the incident, and her family reports that government officials have contacted them and offered money for her to recant her claims.
