Maddow: Marriage provisions seek to really ‘straighten out’ Ohio’s budget
Rachel Maddow saw something a little strange in Ohio’s union-busting budget-balancing bill. Not only does it strip collective bargaining rights from all state workers — which does little on its own to fix the budget — it also contains provisions related to same sex marriage and domestic partnerships.
Maddow said: “Budget bill? If the supposed budget bill in Ohio not only strips union rights from all public workers, including firefighters and cops that the governor derides as ‘idiots,’ it also finds time to doubly, triply ban same sex marriage — which the Ohio legislature already banned in 2004 — ’cause even if that issue has nothing to do with straightening out the deficit, at least it will, you know, ‘straighten’ out the budget or something.”
