Stephen Colbert seeks FEC advice on forming his Super PAC
Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert has now made good on his announcement last month that he intends to create a Super PAC under the terms of Citizens United to receive unlimited corporate donations.
On Friday, Colbert showed up at the Federal Election Commission in Washington to request an advisory opinion on his proposal to form an independent, expenditure-only committee for the 2012 election.
“There should be unlimited corporate money, and I want some of it,” Colbert told Politico’s Ken Vogel. “I don’t want to be the one chump who doesn’t have it.”
Talking Points Memo has posted the letter filed by Colberft’s lawyers with the FEC. It states that “Mr. Colbert intends to use the PAC’s activities as a source of on-air material for The Colbert Report.”
