Journalist will defy Israel’s warnings, cover Freedom Flotilla anyway
The Israeli government has warned that journalists who cover the pro-Palestinian peace flotilla will be punished and barred from Israel for a decade, and the U.S. State Department has warned that participation in the flotilla breaks U.S. laws as well. Joseph Dana, a reporter for The Nation plans to board a ship with the flotilla going from Greece to the Gaza strip anyway.
“It’s important to provide both sides to the international press,” Dana said in an interview with Al Jazeera English.
Last year, in a similar demonstration, nine people were killed.
When asked if he thought he was in any personal danger for covering the story, despite threats the Israel will use military force to stop the flotilla, Dana said, “We have to take the statements of the Israeli government very seriously…we have to prepare for the very worst.”
