Pawlenty backs down on ‘ObamneyCare’
Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty refused to attack Mitt Romney’s Massachusetts health care reform during CNN’s New Hampshire GOP debate on Monday.
Pawlenty made headlines over the weekend by claiming there was no difference between President Barack Obama’s health care reform, which is hugely unpopular among conservatives, and Romney’s health care reform. He dubbed the reforms “Obamneycare.”
When questioned about it Monday, he refused to defend a strong link between Romney and Obama.
“I just cited President Obama’s own words that he looked to Massachusetts as a blueprint or a guide when he designed ObamaCare,” Pawlenty said, after being pressed for an answer. “Using the term ObamneyCare was a reflection of the President’s comments that he designed ObamaCare on the Massachusetts health care plan.”
