Elderly volunteer for Japan nuke cleanup duty
Seniors and the elderly in Japan are volunteering for the dangerous duty of cleaning up the disaster at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant.
“Making young people do that harsh work at the nuclear plant is cruel,” Michio Itoh told CBS News. “I want to shoulder some of their burden.”
“Senior people, elder people, will get less influence (sic) by radiation,” Japan Skilled Veterans Corps’ Yasuteru Yamada insisted. “Therefore we say older people should take action.”
