Former S.C. Gov: ‘I Didn’t Properly Love My Wife’
Former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford (R) appeared on CNN Monday night, expressing regret over the affair that ended his marriage.
“You don’t want to disappoint anybody,” Sanford told host Piers Morgan. “You know that you’ve let a lot of people down. There’s something sacred about a family unit. Anything that brings harm to your boys you have genuine regret about.”
Sanford, who is apparently still in a relationship with Maria Belen Chapur, did mention what he felt as accomplishments in his final days in charge of South Carolina in moving forward from the affair.
“People on the ground were telling me ‘Mark, you missed up, but you can finish strong.’ We actually had the most productive legislative year in all eight years that we had last year.”
