Murder-suicide outside LA school prompts lockdown
LOS ANGELES — A murder-suicide attempt outside a Los Angeles area high school Wednesday left a man and a woman dead, and prompted a panic among parents as authorities locked down the school, police said.
Police said the man shot the woman in the parking lot of Jurupa Valley’s Patriot High School, and then turned the gun on himself around 10:40 am.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said the man was found dead in the parking lot, with a gun lying next to him, and the woman was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.
No students were involved in the shooting, but the campus was secured with students restricted to their classrooms during a search of the area.
Parents, who arrived in a panic after the news, were barred from entering the school until authorities could organize an orderly release in the afternoon.
