News Corp. takes out Alec Baldwin’s phone hacking joke at Emmys
Whether it’s Fox News or the regular Fox channel, News Corp. is still sensitive to any negative attention to allegations of phone hacking.
Actor Alec Baldwin pulled out of the opening video of Sunday’s Emmy Awards on Fox because of the network’s removed his joke about the hacking scandal. According to Deadline Hollywood, the 30 Rock star confirmed the reports with a Tweet: “Fox did kill my NewsCorp hacking joke. Which sucks because I think it would have made them look better. A little. ”
Others suggested that Baldwin was more concerned that the edit would disrupt the flow of the segment than over the censorship itself. Fox told Deadline Hollywood that the joke was removed because the company takes the phone hacking allegations seriously, not because they were too sensitive about the joke.
