Coulter blames ‘liberals’ for allegations against Cain
Conservative columnist Ann Coulter is blaming liberals for reports that Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain covered up sexual harassment accusations against him.
While Cain was head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s, “at least two female employees complained to colleagues and senior association officials about inappropriate behavior,” according to Politico.
As the story broke Sunday night, Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera invited Coulter to be the first guest to comment on it.
“It’s outrageous the way that liberals treat a black conservative,” Coulter complained. “This is another high-tech lynching.”
In 1991, Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas accused liberals of conducting a “high-tech lynching” after allegations emerged that he had sexually harassed Anita Hill.
“There’s nothing liberals fear more than a black conservative,” Coulter told Rivera. “Ask Allen West. Ask Michael Steele and ask Clarence Thomas.”
“Even what the allegations are here, it just shows you that the civil rights juggernaut has gone off the rails. The idea of civil rights law to begin with, ironically, was to protect blacks from Democrats in South who wouldn’t protect them. Now, you know, it’s white women in Scarsdale who say, ‘Oh, I didn’t like that he called me honey.’ And even what the allegations are … It’s not groping, it’s not touching, it’s not that he demanded sex. It’s that he had remarks that they found inappropriate. … This isn’t dropping your pants and saying, ‘Kiss it.’ This is an outrageous attack on a black conservative who is doing extremely well and I think will be our vice president candidate.”
Coulter immediately rejected Juan Williams’ suggestion that another Republican presidential candidate could have leaked the story to Politico.
“Right wingers never bring up personal attacks like this,” she insisted. “When conservatives accuse someone of sexual harassment it’s true, not with [liberals]. We accused John Edwards. We accused Bill Clinton. We don’t go around like them of accusing John McCain of having affairs or Clarence Thomas with Anita Hill. There is a long history of this from the left.”
Politico has declined to name their sources and it’s not clear if any “liberals” were involved in the allegations against Cain.
