Colbert: Co-Opting ‘Occupy’ would ‘spread their message of my message’
Concerned by this past weekend’s unexpected snowstorm and an impending harsh winter season potentially affecting their movement, Stephen Colbert spent his Monday evening offering a bit of support to “Occupy Wall Street.”
Inspired by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey helping fund the tea party through his Freedomworks organization, the Comedy Central host expressed his desire to co-op the movement with his Super PAC.
“It’s a win-win,” he said. “These guys down here get a political player with deep pockets to reach the next level. And I get a nation wide army to spread their message of my message.”
Colbert added: “Big swinging Dick Armey gave the tea partiers the cash and organization they needed to take over the Republican party. So far, all Occupy Wall Street has taken over is the bathroom at Starbucks.”
