‘Batman’ helps Brazilian town fight crime
In order to help combat the high crime rate in the Brazilian city of Taubete’, a retired police officer has decided this past week to become the comic book hero Batman.
According to Al Jazeera, Andre Luiz Pinheiro is the former officer dressing up as the cape crusader. Despite not fighting crime directly, Pinheiro’s Batman is being used to encourage children from becoming criminals in the future.
With the city’s crime rate jumping 50 percent amongst its children and teenagers in 2011, Taubete’s arrival of its Batman certainly comes in time.
