Kucinich refuses to endorse Kaptur against ‘Joe the Plumber’
Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) on Thursday refused to endorse Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), who defeated him in a primary election two weeks ago.
“I’ve lost before, I accept that I lost,” Kucinich told The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur. “I want people to understand that I probably have more defeats registered than most members of Congress. I’ve lost eight times. It took me five times to get elected to Congress over a 28 year period. So, you know, I’m not a stranger to defeat. As a matter of fact, I learned that defeat often has blessings disguised.”
The primary battle was set up by Ohio Republicans, who redrew the voting maps to consolidate Kucinich’s district with Kaptur’s, forcing the two into a contentious primary.
When asked who the people of the district should vote for, Kucinich declined to respond.
“I’m not going to talk about that campaign at all,” Kucinich said. “There are some things that need to be resolved.”
Kaptur will go on to face Sam Wurzelbacher, best known as “Joe the Plumber” from Sen. John McCain’s failed 2008 presidential campaign, during the general election in November.
