Couple becomes first to marry at North Pole
A Norwegian couple made history this past week, becoming the first to have a wedding at the North Pole.
According to Explorers Web, accomplished polar explorer Borge Ousland and his wife Hege tied the knot in -23 degree Celsius weather (-9 degrees Fahrenheit) with 30 guests and a pastor in attendance. The couple flew in from Longyearbyen, Svalbard to Barneo Ice Station and then boarded a Russian helicopter to the pole.
The unique wedding is not the first notable accomplishment for Ousland. He was the first person to ski the North Pole and Antarctica alone, as well as becoming the first person to ski and swim across the Arctic Circle.
Earlier this week, a man proposed to his wife at the North Pole after completing a marathon race.
