Man tries to board flight with knife in mayonnaise jar
A bizarre incident occurred at JFK airport in New York City Tuesday evening, where a man was caught trying to smuggle a knife onto a flight in a jar of mayonnaise, according to a spokeswoman from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The individual was scheduled for a flight to Mexico City when airport security detected mayonnaise inside his bag from the X-ray scanners. The TSA considers mayonnaise as a liquid or gel and found a knife inside the jar after opening it. The agency confiscated both items and called Port Authority police, who detained and questioned the man.
TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein told The Raw Story that police decided the man wasn’t a threat despite his peculiar decision.
“We called Port Authority police to detain and talk to the man, and it was decided that he could proceed on his trip,” Farbstein said.
The Raw Story called the Port Authority police but were unavailable for a response.
