Colbert to Chinese activist: Canada way more ‘into human rights’ than U.S.
Stephen Colbert provided advice Tuesday evening to escaped Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng, saying that Mexico or Canada would be better places to go to instead of America.
After labeling him a “badass” for leaving his country, Colbert renamed Chen “Eric” and described what he would tell him.
“Hey Eric, you made it, that is awesome man,” Colbert said. “I guess you heard of us declaring our commitment to human rights. We must have declared that pretty loud Here’s the thing, ordinarily we’ve be so stoked about you crashing with us. But this isn’t the best time.”
“Hey, you know who else is into human rights? Canada. It’s a fantastic country. Vancouver is full of Chinese people. You cannot swing a cat up there without someone trying to make a stew out of it. But if you have to, you know, ‘Mi casa is su casa.’ Speaking of which, have you thought about Mexico? That country is not China.”
