Company’s ‘LaserSaber’ looks just like ‘Star Wars’ Jedi weapon
George Lucas might be about to sue somebody.
A company called Wicked Lasers, which produces some of the most powerful consumer-level lasers available, began selling on Friday a special attachment for one of their latest creations that turns it into a “LaserSabre,” which looks suspiciously like the favorite weapon of Jedi knights in the “Star Wars” films.
The company already attracted the legal hackles of Lucasfilm in 2010 with its Spyder III Arctic laser, which already looked suspiciously like a lightsaber.
But since Lucasfilm didn’t pursue its order to cease and desist, now there’s this: an actual lightsaber, which the creators promise will let users harness “the power of the force.”
In a video published to YouTube on Thursday, two actors dressed as Jedi pretend to fight with their LaserSabres as a narrator warns, “these are not toys.”
“High powered laser devices could have devastating consequences if used improperly,” the video explains. “These are professional stuntmen. Do not participate in any form of fencing or swordplay, as it will cause serious damage to people, pets or property.”
That’s probably good advice — and while it does make this invention somewhat less cool, it still looks pretty darn neat.
