Pat Robertson prays to convert ‘homosexuals’ from ‘displeasing’ Jesus
Televangelist Pat Robertson on Wednesday asked gay men and lesbians to pray with him that they would stop “displeasing” Jesus by doing “something the Bible says in an abomination.”
Following a segment on CBN’s 700 Club about a lesbian who said she had become straight after giving her life to God, Robertson invited his gay and lesbian viewers to do the same.
“So many people who are in the so-called homosexual lifestyle found that some camp counselor, some coach, some older person, older teenager, whatever had started them on the road to homosexuality,” Robertson explained. “She didn’t have some genetic thing going on insider of her. She was just attracted to where she had been as a little girl. She didn’t know any better.”
“I know that many people today say, ‘You’re not supposed to say this is wrong because it makes us feel uncomfortable.’ Well, she felt uncomfortable and all of the sudden there was a cleaning, there was light, there was joy.”
“Would you like that?” the TV preacher asked. “If some of you are involved in a lesbian relationship or homosexual relationship or you’ve got tenancies or whatever, only God can make a difference and He can change whatever’s there in your life and give you peace so that you’re not doing something that the Bible says is an abomination, but you’re doing that which pleases him. Would you like that? Well if you would, I want you to pray with me right now.”
Robertson closed his eyes and offered the following prayer:
Jesus, you know me. You know me, Lord. You know what’s deep down at the center of my being, you know what I’ve done, you know what’s been done to me. But, Lord, I want to leave all that behind, I want a fresh start, I want to be clean, I want to be righteous, I want to live for you. And so now I turn away from that which is displeasing in your sight and I turn to you. Lord God, fill me now with your spirit, set me free from whatever would bind me. From this moment on, Lord, I’m yours and I thank you that you are mine. Thank you, Lord.
In closing, the CBN founder asked those that prayed with to call his toll-free number for a free compact disc of “comprehensive teachings.”
“The angels are rejoicing in heaven over the decision you just made,” he said.
