Maddow on Romney’s new ads: What’s going on?
On her show Thursday night, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow noted there had been a sudden shift in the focus of Mitt Romney’s ads.
Romney’s ads in May and June were devoted to economic issues. But his most recent ads have focused on cultural issues.
“August is young, but there has been a very dramatic turn in Mitt Romney’s messaging,” Maddow said.
“After focusing like a laser on exactly what he said he was going to focus on like a laser for the first three months of the general election campaign, after doing dozens of ads almost exclusively focused on on the economy, this week now we’ve seen three new ads and the subjects are birth control, welfare and Israel. What’s going on?”
Maddow explained that the new nature of the ads reflected Romney’s desire to rile the base of the Republican Party, because there were already a stunningly low number of undecided voters.
