North Carolina prison guard busted with weed in pants
A prison guard at North Carolina’s Bertie Correctional Institution was caught this week trying to smuggle marijuana into the facility inside his pants, according to local NBC News affiliate WITN.
Larry Baker was arrested and charged with possession and intent to distribute a controlled substance after police found four ounces of marijuana in his pants. They also claimed he’d stashed an additional five ounces in a nearby bathroom.
Baker is the second Bertie Correctional Institution guard to be arrested for trying to distribute marijuana in less than a year. WITN noted that police arrested a 22-year-old woman named Omni Johnson last October and charged her with attempting to distribute a pound of marijuana and cellular phones to prisoners at the facility.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation said in 2010 that 853,838 people were arrested on marijuana-related charges, accounting for more than half of all drug arrests in the country.
