Paul Ryan’s Wisconsin challenger: He is ‘completely out of touch’
Democratic candidate Rob Zerban said Tuesday that Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) had done a poor job of representing his Congressional district.
“He supported unfair trade practices and trade agreements that have moved our manufacturing base overseas,” Zerban told The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur.
Zerban is running for Ryan’s seat in Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional district. Although Ryan is Mitt Romney’s running mate, he is also running for re-election in Wisconsin.
“People need to understand that he hasn’t been supporting fair trade deals, but free trade deals, which have hurt the workers of the 1st Congressional district and have allowed these companies to export these jobs to, lets say, Mexico,” Zerban continued.
“These are completely the wrong priorities for a congressman and we’ve seen from his budget that he is completely an out of touch Washington insider. He has never really done anything to help the district.”
Ryan has held his House seat for nearly 13 straight years, but Zerban said he could defeat Ryan by focusing on his budget plan.
“What his budget does is actually shift the cost of Medicare onto the backs of senior citizens to the tune of about $6,500 a year.”
