Video catches Taipei man being killed by sinkhole during typhoon
Cameras in Taipei caught remarkable footage of the moment a deadly sinkhole opened and swallowed a man.
The man was walking on a sidewalk outside the Temple of Sansha when the ground suddenly collapsed beneath him, according to CNN. Rescuers tried, but were not able to reach the man in time to save his life. His body was recovered hours later.
The sinkhole was thought to be caused by slow-moving Typhoon Saola, which has been pounding the island with rain for several days. At least five have died in Taiwan since the typhoon hit. Another 23 also died in the Philippines.
Saola has been downgraded to a tropical storm and is now making its way to China’s mainland.
