Children’s throats slit by mystery assailant
Update (below): Police charge 31-year-old man with murder, attempted murder
Two children in Camden, New Jersey, a 6-year-old by and a 12-year-old girl, had their throats slit early Sunday by a mystery assailant who remains at large.
Police said 6-year-old Dominick Andujor died shortly after the brutal attack, which happened while the kids’ mother was in the hospital for surgery. Andujor’s 12-year-old sister, who has not been named, remains in critical condition after she escaped the house and got a neighbor to call for help.
It’s not yet clear why this individual attacked the sleeping children. Authorities told The New York Times that two other kids were in the house at the time, but they were unharmed.
Camden, with a population just over 77,000, has one of the worst crime rates of any U.S. city. Crime data site NeighborhoodScout.com ranked the city’s safety as a 3 out of a possible 100.
Update: Police charge 31-year-old man with murder, attempted murder
Prosecutors said that 31-year-old Camden man Osvaldo Rivera was arrested Monday morning and charged with murder and attempted murder in the attacks. His motive for the attacks is still unclear.
