Thanksgiving horror: Foggy conditions lead to 140-car pileup in Texas
In the early hours of Thanksgiving Day, dense fog in south Texas led to an astonishing 140-car pileup that left two people dead and more than 80 injured.
The wreck, which occurred off Interstate 10 near Houston, wasn’t immediately identified by police as a major pileup due to the fog. Multiple pileups ultimately turned into a sprawling scene of wreckage, with many cars crushed like soda cans by tractor trailers that had no idea what was lying in wait for them in the mist.
The highway, a major artery between Texas and Louisiana, was closed for about eight hours, but had been reopened by Friday morning.
