Cory Booker ‘absolutely considering’ running for New Jersey governor
Newark mayor Cory Booker, a rising Democratic star, is weighing a run against Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
“I am absolutely considering running for governor, as well as giving other options some consideration,” he said on CBS’ Face The Nation. “I am going to be focused on that for the next week to 10 days or so and really come up with a decision that answers my basic question is where do I believe I can make the best difference for the city I love, for the state I love and the nation I pledge my life to.”
Booker, who is currently living on $30 worth of food to highlight cuts to the food stamp program, said he would make his decision within the next two weeks.
“It’s got to be within the next two weeks, especially in New Jersey, because there are a lot of very good candidates for governor in New Jersey on the Democratic side,” Booker explained.
The progressive mayor said he was also open to running for the U.S. Senate.
