Eliot Spitzer slaps down Lou Dobbs for ‘right-to-work’ falsehood
Current TV host Eliot Spitzer called out Fox Business host Lou Dobbs on Thursday night for falsely claiming that so-called “right-to-work” laws prevented employees from being forced to join a union.
“Despite the president’s misleading suggestions to the contrary, Michigan workers still tonight have the right to form and join a union,” Dobbs said on Tuesday. “They still have the right to bargain collectively, and what this law changes is forced union membership. I repeat, forced union membership.”
Spitzer pointed out that federal laws already prohibit workers from being forced to join a union as a condition of employment.
The “right-to-work” laws like the one recently approved in Michigan prohibit unions from collecting agency fees, which cover the cost of collective bargaining for non-union workers. The “right-to-work” laws allow employees to benefit from collective bargaining agreements without contributing anything to the union.
