Judge orders ‘deadbeat dad’ not to procreate as a condition of probation
Corey Curtis of Wisconsin says he will abide by a judge’s order not to have any more children until he can pay for them.
Racine County Circuit Court Judge Tim Boyle on Monday sentenced the 44-year-old father to serve three years’ probation for failing to pay about $85,000 in child support to two of his nine children. As a condition of his probation, Curtis is not allowed to procreate.
“He is not to procreate until he can show he can provide for them,” Boyle declared, noting the Wisconsin Supreme Court had upheld a similar order.
The high court ruled such an order did not violate the constitutional right to procreate, since one could still reproduce if they could pay for the child.
“Judges, they make rulings,” Curtis told CBS 58 News, “they make them kind of hastily. So, if that’s what he feels one of my conditions should be then I’m going to abide by it.”
