‘Spock’ actor reveals that Obama gave him Vulcan salute
Monday night on “Conan,” host Conan O’Brian welcomed “Star Trek” and “American Horror Story” actor Zachary Quinto, who revealed that President Barack Obama may be even nerdier than some people suspect.
Quinto worked as a surrogate for the Obama campaign in 2008 and 2012, but said, “It all culminated on election night of this year. I was in Chicago, I was 40 feet away from the podium where he accepted his victory.”
A flash of recognition had passed between the two men before, however. Quinto, who is playing U.S.S. Enterprise Science officer Mr. Spock in the J. J. Abrams-produced “Star Trek” films, said that the first time he met Obama was “in a crowd of people, he was sort of being ushered down the way and he caught me in the back, and he was, like, ‘What’s up?'” he said, flashing the Vulcan hand-sign for “Live long and prosper.”
“And I was, like, I really want to hang out with you so much more, now,” Quinto said. “You’re cool.”
