Brian Kilmeade’s attempt to play with his ‘Pocket Hose’ on air goes terribly wrong
Friday morning on “Fox and Friends,” Steve Doocy and guest host Alisyn Camerota presented co-host Brian Kilmeade with a late Christmas present, a Pocket Hose.
Pocket Hose is an infomercial-style product that bills itself as “The Hose that Fits in a Pocket but Grows to a Full-Size Hose!” The company website promises that Pocket Hose’s “accordion design won’t kink, twist or tangle like ordinary hoses,” and guarantees that it’s “SO STRONG, IT CAN PULL A 5,000 POUND SUV!”
“Pocket Hose,” it promises, “grows long & strong enough for any size job,” then “practically puts itself away” when you turn off the water.
Looking genuinely delighted, Kilmeade ran out to the Avenue of the Americas, where Doocy waited with a second Pocket Hose and a gentleman named Al, who was bent over a spigot that was jetting water from the side of the building to the middle of the sidewalk.
Doocy, however, was already sounding the alarm that things were not going as planned.
“This was going to be a great idea,” he said as Kilmeade rushed outside. “We were going to show people how this actually works. Now, right over here, live, on our world headquarters, we’ve got Al, who’s got the key to turn on the faucet, and actually the faucet is going and we can’t turn it off.”
The faucet, he explained, has a lock because “you just don’t want some kids coming up to our world headquarters at 2:00 in the morning and turning on the, the water and draining the skyscraper, so it’s got a key. Al? Al?” he asked, bending over the maintenance man and the streaming jet of water. “Do you have the right key? Al?”
Al somewhat grumpily explained that he had the right key, but that the lock was stripped.
“Al?” Doocy said. “Are you ever going to be able to turn that thing off?”
Just then, Kilmeade came running up holding his hose.
A decision was quickly reached to attempt to plug Doocy’s hose up to the gushing faucet.
“Don’t you find hoses bulky?” Kilmeade asked earnestly.
“Are you happy?” Doocy asked as the two men watched Al fruitless attempt to hook up the hose. “Look what he’s doing to your Christmas gift.”
“Well, I just think you guys could have pre-thought it a little,” Kilmeade replied.
Finally, they surrendered, even as backup arrived for Al and, presumably, someone radioed for even more help.
“Now,” Kilmeade said, gathering up his hose, “this just goes back into my pocket!”
“It’s a little damp,” Doocy noted.
“Right,” said Kilmeade.
