Police: CA rape suspect met victim on Christian dating site
Police in La Mesa, California said on Friday that the suspect in a rape and burglary case met his victim on a popular Christian dating site.
According to KGTV-TV, 37-year-old Sean Patrick Banks was arrested earlier this week and charged with forcible rape and one count of residential burglary after allegedly attacking a woman while visiting her home late last year.
“In November she invited him to her house,” said La Mesa Police Lt. Matt Nicholas. “He became forceful with her and ultimately ended up raping her.”
Banks allegedly met the victim on the Christian Mingle dating site, where he used the name “Rarity.” Police said he used other aliases, like “Rylan Butterwood” and “Rylan Harbough.” A neighbor told the station that Banks said, “I never raped anyone” as he was being taken into custody.
Banks faces 36 years to life in jail if convicted. He is currently free after posting $500,000 bail and is due back in court March 1.
A spokesperson for the site told KNSD-TV that Christian Mingle has cooperated with authorities during the investigation.
