Iowa cop rescues teen from burning vehicle
A police officer from Urbandale, Iowa saved the life of a lucky 18-year-old over the weekend by pulling the unconscious teen from his burning vehicle.
Ian Waseskuk, 18, crashed his car while attempting to drive in circles in a snow-covered church parking lot on Sunday, according to The Associated Press. When it slid into an air conditioning unit and caught on fire, officer Zac McDowell had to act fast.
Footage published Tuesday shows McDowell desperately reaching into the burning vehicle as smoke pours from the passenger-side door, then emerging with Waseskuk’s arm clasped in his hands.
Waseskuk only sustained minor injuries, the AP noted. He will face a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving upon release from the hospital.
