New York Rep. Peter King goes glove-to-glove with kickboxing champ
The 68-year-old Long Island Republican, Rep. Peter King (NY), laced up his boxing gloves last night for a fight that had nothing to do with either budget cuts or charity.
The congressman, known for his racially-charged hearings on Muslim radicalization in the U.S., went two rounds against a New York state kickboxing champion, “Irish” Josh Foley, at a pub in Wantagh, N.Y. Saturday night.
“Some people have been comparing my bout with Foley to Tiger Woods playing golf with President Obama,” King said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.
Weighing in at about 230 pounds, Rep. King said he has been training for about nine years. In 1991, he reportedly sparred with former pro Seamus McDonagh in an exhibition bout on the 20th anniversary of the first Joe Frazier-Muhammad Ali fight.
