Police say gunman who killed 4 in upstate New York is dead after shootout
The man who allegedly killed four people and wounded two others in a shooting rampage in upstate New York died Thursday morning in a shootout with police. According to CBS News, officers closed in on the 64-year-old suspect around 8:00 a.m., shooting and killing him after he fired his own weapon and killed a police dog.
New York State Trooper Jack Keller told reporters that suspect Kurt Meyers was killed in a confrontation that took place after state and FBI SWAT teams entered a building in the business district of the village of Herkimer, NY where Meyers was hiding.
Meyers began the fatal rampage on Wednesday by setting fire to his apartment in the town of Mohawk, New York. He shot two people dead and wounded two others at a barbershop near his house, then killed two more at a car wash in Herkimer.
