Sister of teacher killed at Newtown shooting ‘disgusted’ by Senate
Carlee Soto, whose older sister Victoria was killed in the tragic Newtown mass shooting, said Wednesday she was “disgusted” to witness the Senate reject universal background checks.
“If they were to lose a loved one to a horrific tragedy like we did, they would feel the same way and I don’t wish upon anyone but if they had to bury their loved ones they would feel the same way I do,” she told CNN’s Piers Morgan.
Earlier in the day, the Senate failed to approve an amendment to gun legislation that would require criminal background checks for firearm sales at gun shows and on the Internet.
“No one is trying to take away your guns,” Soto remarked. “It’s just a background check. A simple background check.”
She added that those who voted against the amendment should be ashamed for speaking on behalf of the gun lobby rather than the American public.
