Colbert: John ‘MC Tangerine Dream’ Boehner is right about IRS scandal
On Wednesday night’s edition of “The Colbert Report,” host Stephen Colbert discussed the difficulty he is currently facing when so many scandals are wracking the Obama administration at once.
Trying to choose which scandal to report on at any given time, Colbert said, “is like trying to pick which one of your children to impeach.” (“For the record, it’s the one who ate chips in Daddy’s den. You know the rules,” he said as an aside.)
“Thankfully, Congress made it easy for me today by putting the spotlight on the IRS,” he continued. The tax agency is currently embroiled in a scandal regarding the group’s handling of Tea Party groups, which were registering as non-taxable 501(c)4 “social welfare” groups as opposed to political groups, which are taxed and have to reveal their donors.
Acting IRS head Steven Miller, appointed to head the agency by President George W. Bush, has voluntarily stepped down. Speaker of the House Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) asked last week, “Who’s going to jail over this scandal?”
“Folks, I gotta say,” said Colbert, “MC Tangerine Dream is right. This IRS thing is a jail-able offense and Obama knows it! Just listen to what he said to Joe Biden.”
He then played a clip from the film “It’s a Wonderful Life,” in which Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey shouted, “Do you realize what this means? It means bankruptcy and scandal and prison! That’s what it means! One of us is going to jail. Well, it’s not gonna be me!”
