Fresh out of ideas, NBC turns to Kylie Minogue for ‘She-Ra’ sitcom
In a video published Monday by satire website “Funny or Die,” NBC is savagely mocked by Australian singer Kylie Minogue portraying “She-Ra,” the female lead of the classic cartoon “Masters of the Universe,” in a spoof of the network’s reportedly awful attempt at a “Wonder Woman” show.
“I am Sheeeee-Raaaa!” Minogue yells, holding her sword skyward before turning her horse into a rainbow-colored flying unicorn and chopping down Skeletor.
“And you won’t believe what happens next week on, ‘She-Ra,'” a narrator adds.
The scene cuts to a living room where Minogue is watching TV when suddenly police burst in. “You are under arrest for the murder of Edward ‘Skelly’ Skeletor,” a detective tells her. “You have the right to remain silent.”
The next segment drops She-Ra into a prison drama, but her muscle-bound brother He-Man comes to save her. “Only on NBC, it’s got to be NBC,” the narrator exclaims.
The segment after that, She-Ra’s in a medical drama being told she’s pregnant. Then, three episodes down the line, it teases Skeletor’s return from the dead. Finally, She-Ra’s in a car accident and dies on a gourney as her boyfriend “Skelly” looks on in tears.
“NBC, more colorful,” the narrator exclaims. “And stay turned for the new comedy everybody will be talking about. ‘Skelly,’ only on NBC.”
Of course, the show isn’t real, but there are some comic book offering on tap for broadcast networks coming very soon. The show “Agents of Shield,” based on Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers,” should scratch that itch appropriately for ABC.
“Masters of the Universe” fans have had to be satisfied with recently released, low-budget fan films up until now. However, Sony has a full-length “Masters of the Universe” film under development and recently secured a director.
