Police: New Mexico man crashed car during drunk sex and then hid in cactus
A 25-year-old New Mexico man was arrested on multiple charges on Monday after he allegedly had sex while driving drunk and then hid in a cactus.
Witness told Albuquerque police that Luis Briones was observed having sex with a woman who was on his lap while he was driving, according to KRQE. Briones ran a red light and struck another car, throwing his naked companion from the vehicle.
“Mr. Briones was observed to be having sexual intercourse with the passenger and sped off… at a high rate of speed,” a criminal complaint obtained by Albuquerque Journal said. “Their activities presented a danger to others in the roadway as exhibited by the accident.”
Officers recovered a partially consumed bottle of vodka in the suspect’s car, and witnesses described him as being clearly intoxicated.
The report said that Briones tried to flee but a witness took his car keys. Police later found Briones hiding in cactus with his shorts inside out. The complaint stated that he refused to cooperate with police and became hostile with paramedics. Police said that he also refused to wear his pants while inside the patrol car.
Briones is facing at least eight charges, including aggravated DWI, reckless driving, running a red light, possessing an open container and refusing to obey an officer. He was being held at Metropolitan Detention Center without bond.
His female companion sustained deep cuts to her face, but was taken to a hospital and in stable condition. Police said that neither Briones nor the woman were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
