Alabama police officer fatally shoots ex-girlfriend, her stepfather and himself
Police in Selma, Alabama have confirmed that one of their officers shot and killed two people before turning the gun on himself.
Selma police said that officers responded to the 2400 block of Springdale Street at around 12:10 p.m. on Sunday, where they found Dwight Moorer and his ex-girlfriend shot to death inside a white car, according to WNCF-TV. A third victim found nearby on 10th Street was identified as the ex-girlfriend’s stepfather.
Moorer had been with the Selma Police Department for five years. He was also a military veteran who had served two tours of duty in Iraq.
“This hurts us so deeply,” Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley told The Selma Times-Journal. “It’s bad enough to see the loss of life, but to know that one of our officers, one of our own, would go out and do something like this is devastating.”
WSFA reported that the Alabama Bureau of Investigations had taken the lead in the case.
