Cleveland man sentenced to hold ‘idiot’ sign for threatening police
A man in Cleveland wore a sign describing himself as an “idiot” on Labor Day as punishment for calling 911 and threatening police officers.
Cleveland Municipal Judge Pinkey Carr in May ordered 58-year-old Richard Dameron to stand outside a local police station with a sign that read, “I apologize to Officer Simone and all police officers for being an idiot calling 911 threatening to kill you. I am sorry and it will never happen again.”
Dameron will be standing outside the police station for three hours each day for the rest of the week.
He told Fox 8 Cleveland he was drunk when he threatened a retired police officer and other officers in February.
“I’m not upset. I’m going to stand up to the plate and be the man I’m supposed to be. Other than that, I am not trying to get in trouble no more,” he told Fox.
The Associated Press noted that Judge Carr previously made a woman wear a similar “idiot” sign for driving past a stopped school bus.
