Serbia hosts world testicle cooking championship
Serbia is currently hosting its annual worldwide testicle cooking contest in the remote mountain village of Gornji Milanovac. According to the International Business Times, competitors come from all over the world to compete with each other to see who can make the most delicious use of goat, lamb, bull, camel, ostrich and other animals’ testicles — including badgers.
Festival founder Ljubomir Erovic told Agence France-Presse, “The Royal Prince of Serbia, Milos and his counterpart, Tito, loved testicles and they often had it on the menu.” Erovic said that the dish gave the men skill as lovers and as statesmen.
“So, there are a number of prizes,” said U.S. judge Anna Wexler. “The best prize is the taste, like, who has the best balls. That’s the highest prize, but people give prizes for presentation and texture. There’s a prize for many different things, but I think taste is the highest prize there is.”
Raw Story executive editor Megan Carpentier and U.S. national security editor for The Guardian Spencer Ackerman hosted a memorable video episode in November of 2008 for Jezebel.com in which they tested recipes from Erovic’s cookbook, The Testicle Cookbook: Cooking With Balls.
