Home Depot apologizes for remarkably racist Twitter post
The Home Depot Inc. apologized Thursday for a racist social media post that showed two black men using buckets sold by the hardware store chain as drums, with a person wearing a gorilla mask seated between them.
The post on the store’s official Twitter account then asked: “Which drummer is not like the others?”
The tweet, which was part of an ESPN “College Game Day” promotion, was quickly pulled, but not before other Twitter users took screen shots of the post and circulated it one social media.
Home Depot said Friday the person and outside agency responsible for the tweet but did not disclose their names.
“We have zero tolerance for anything so stupid and offensive,” said Stephen Holmes, spokesman for the Atlanta-based company.
Holmes said the company would review its social media policy to find out how the offending post was made and to make sure something similar “never happens again.”
