‘Clueless’ actress Stacey Dash: It’s ‘propaganda’ to say GOP is against marriage equality
Outspoken Hollywood Republican Stacey Dash said that it’s ridiculous to say that the Republican Party doesn’t support same-sex marriage.
The New Civil Rights Movement quoted a Dash appearance on TMZ, in which she said, “We are for equal marriage, we’re not against that, we’re not against that at all. We believe everyone should have the same rights.”
The Washington Post reported on a 2013 Gallup poll found that only 39 percent of Republicans find homosexuality to be morally acceptable at all, let alone marriages between same-sex couples.
The 2012 Republican National Convention party platform stated unequivocally stated, “we believe that marriage, the union of one man and one woman must be upheld as the national standard, a goal to stand for, encourage, and promote through laws governing marriage.”
The Texas Republican Party’s 2014 platform doesn’t even recognize anything other than heterosexuality as a legitimate orientation. The party views LGBT people as having a disorder that should be treated through now-discredited “reparative therapy,” which purports to convert people to heterosexuality through prayer and indoctrination.
“We recognize the legitimacy and value of counseling which offers reparative therapy and treatment to patients who are seeking escape from the homosexual lifestyle. No laws or executive orders shall be imposed to limit or restrict access to this type of therapy,” said the platform statement.
“Reparative therapy” has been outlawed for minors in New Jersey and California as a form of child abuse. The international nerve center for the discredited practice, Exodus International, closed its doors last year and apologized for the damage it did over the years to LGBT people of faith.
