Florida woman arrested for dressing son like a girl to punish him for wetting himself
A 34-year-old Florida woman and her landlord were arrested for allegedly punishing her 10-year-old son by dressing him up like a girl and exposing him to public ridicule, WKMG-TV reported.
Christle Marie Prado and the landlord, 26-year-old Keith Driscoll, were arrested this week after authorities received photos of the boy crying while wearing the dress and makeup. Prado was charged with cruelty toward a child and infliction of physical or mental injury. Driscoll was charged with felony aggravated child abuse.
Prado told investigators that Driscoll, who is also Prado’s roommate, came up with the idea of shaming the boy because he wets and soils himself. Police attributed that to a documented medical condition. Prado allegedly called the boy “Glenda” while he wore the dress and forced him to go outside so he could be ridiculed by others.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that, according to an affadavit, Prado went along with Driscoll’s idea “because she did not want to cause problems and ruin her living situation.”
She also said that she took the pictures of her son with her cell phone, then shared them with her boyfriend in a private Facebook message. However, investigators were reportedly contacted by the boy’s uncle on Nov. 24 after he saw the pictures online.
Prado also told police that she goes to Driscoll for advice “when she is frustrated and does not know what else to do as far as getting [the boy’s] attention.”
Officials with the state Department of Children and Families told WKMG that they have investigated Prado for abuse allegations in the past. The boy and his two siblings have been taken out of Prado’s home and placed in the custody of a relative.
